WEEK 12 JOURNAL

For the Portfolio I made, I believe that I have tried my best to complete it. I search many different samples for comparison after that I select the most suitable one as the template for every single part. From the feedback, I found that the video clip is too long for my portfolio because it is one of the TV program series. It is my negligence that there are no bilingual subtitles for my video, I think I will improve it in the future.

From this lecture, I got information of insights about the state of the market for creatives in South Australia from the guest speakers, as well as the ‘101’ of job search hints, interview techniques, CVs and presentation tips. I need to set my career goals which means it is necessary to make a career plan. Then I learnt several tips for writing great resumes. Writing a compelling cover letter is quite important, which can capture the attention of the reader and demonstrate the qualities.

WEEK 9 JOURNAL

Several guest speakers made a presentation about their first couple of years after graduation. Pure Thring was offered a job after finishing her degree. She worked as a tutor to teach students in Introduction to Digital Media. She watched students grow and make their ideas become a reality. I think it is meaningful to accompany with students to grow. At the end of her first year out, she made a decision to be a freelance filmmaker which is her truly expectation. I have an idea that I should try some different jobs then find the most suitable one.

WEEK 8 JOURNAL

This week’s lecture discusses about many significant issues of personal branding. A brand is a commercial representation of me and my work in the marketplace. The elements of a brand include corporate identity and corporate visual identity. Brand terminology and brand analysis is important to know. It is meaningful to set a problem list of setting up the personal brand, which will be of benefit to creating the personal brand. Paying attention to the brand direction over time is necessary as well.

WEEK 7 JOURNAL

There is a reciprocal relationship between self-exploration and environment exploration. They keeps a dynamic balance which is two directional and co-dependent. (Greenhaus, Callanan & Godshalk 2009, p. 88) There are many factors need to be consider to get job-ready. So it is significant for us to understand what kind of organisation is the most suitable, which will be benefit to me during the transition from student to professional. It is necessary for us to get on-the-job experience as well. Finally, targeting the job search is useful.

From this week’s lecture, I can learn about how to make a career plan by contemplating step by step. It lists many services offered by the University for the graduating junior as well. It is quite important to clear our personal options, which means we should create our individual career pathway with specific aim. There are many internal opportunities for those soon-to-be graduates. It is convenient for students to get professional associations from both physical and online method.

WEEK 5 JOURNAL

The lecture of this week goes into detail about considering the influence of different organisations on a variety of factors in a workplace. In general, the larger scale certain type of the organisation has, the more extensive hierarchy is (Wiley 2015, p. 38). It is easier for a small-scale organisation to make a decision, which means it is complex for those big organisation to make any decision.

WEEK 4 JOURNAL

There is a detailed introduction about types of organisations from this week’s lecture. Organisations is the place where you are able to seek out an occupation. There are mainly three different kinds of organisations, which are companies, government agencies, and not-for-profit organisations, respectively. Besides, sole trader and partnership both are organisation types as well. It is quite hard to operate an organization like a sole trade because there are numerous factors need to be thought about. However, the primary factors which need to be considered for various types of organisations are almost same.
